You won’t be the fastest out there but you’ll certainly be having fun

Naish have produced a whole new line for 2013 after manufacturing problems with the 2012 range of boards. The new line now consists of 4 new models with the Dub sitting somewhere in the middle and coming under the classification of Freestyle/Freeride.

The boards this year are noticeably lighter than the 2012 ones and are a lot thinner too. Last year I was riding the momentum which is a very good Freeride board but the Dub is a totally different beast altogether.

First thing which is noticeable is the flex.

The board isn’t at all stiff and is quite flexible making landings from jumps and going out through the surf really quite easy. It is also well rockered which also aids getting through the surf and makes it super smooth in the turn.

The board needs to be powered up to make the most of its attributes

Having said all the plus points about the Dub where the board excels in some areas it will also have some minus points. The dub is a specialised machine, not for the beginner Kiter as it won’t cruise up wind. The board needs to be powered up to make the most of its attributes. Because of the high rocker and flex it won’t be the fastest or cruise upwind like some other boards but is a playful toy that jumps, carves (as loose as a goose in strawberry mouse!) and is very forgiving in the surf.

Naish also supply the board with 3.8cm G10 fins, personally I found them too small. I think they would be great if you were riding with boots on butter smooth water but riding with bindings on choppy water the board lacked grip and upwind ability so I have now replaced with some 5.0 cm ones which work perfectly.

Overall the Naish Dub is a cracking board, you won’t be the fastest out there but you’ll certainly be having a lot of fun. It’s loose, it carves and jumps like demon. Looks slick and comes with the new apex bindings which are a monumental improvement over previous years!
